Mad Men’s Don Draper Presents Facebook’s Timeline

Who knew that Facebook’s newest feature was originally conceived by the Mad Men of the 1960s?
In all seriousness the most compelling elements of Facebook’s Timeline are the ones that made Kodak’s Carousel popular. Reminiscing is a social activity. It always has been and now Facebook is bringing that activity online.

Currently in private beta, Visual.ly is a new tool that allows you to create and share infographics.
Going on the video below, Visual.ly sure seems like a compelling offering – particularly when you consider the lack of tools currently out there available to non-designers to create their own infographic data visualizations.

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ll know that I have am often impressed with some of the more creative Infographics that appear on my radar. I’m very much of the school of thought that says – produce a report and …

Pink Ponies: a case study for PR / Marketing / Social media

In 2010, Toronto agency  john st. took on its toughest challenge yet. Make Chelsea Bedano’s birthday party a success in an already cluttered birthday market. The results were astounding.

This is absolutely brilliant, a spoof agency of the year submission for Strategy magazine from Toronto agency John St.
Called ‘Pink Ponies: a case history’ it almost has you believing it all.
“In a crowded birthday market we didn’t didn’t just create a birthday party we created a birthday movement.”

Stop your PR campaigns and start living in the NOW

I’ve been a long time follower of David Meerman Scott, author of the brilliant The New Rules of Marketing and PR which I still remember reading for the first time a few years ago and the impact it has made on my outlook to the industry in which I work. Six months on the BusinessWeek bestseller list and published in 26 languages from Bulgarian to Vietnamese, New Rules, now in its second edition, is a modern business classic.
There have been a few new books written by the author since but for a real …

Facebook vs. Twitter

Here’s a great infographic which reveals some interesting stats on Twitter and Facebook users. Whilst at times, comparing the two platforms is a bit like comparing hamburgers and burritos, there are still some nuggets here that raise an eyebrow:

Only 12% of ‘bookers update their status daily compared with 52% of Twitterers.
40% of people on Facebook follow a brand, compared to 25% of folk on Twitter.
Awareness of both platforms is more or less equal – 88% Facebook, 87% Twitter
Only a third of users access Facebook or Twitter on their mobile. I …

According to the official blog, local businesses will be able to offer consumers deals whenever they check in to their place on Facebook. Deals will be rolling out over the next few days and will only be available in the United States at this time (shock, horror!)
When Facebook Places launched  back in August, it was touted as a potential Foursquare killer. Just days …
