Grammar: “You’re” vs. “Your” – get schooled to the tune of Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know

Anyone that’s ever had the misfortune to work with me will attest that I get really annoyed by anyone who gets confused about the difference between YOU’RE and YOUR.
Granted, people who also get THEIR, THEY’RE and THERE mixed up also nark me but it’s the YOU’RE / YOUR mix-up that really sends my blood-pressure through the roof.
Which is why this video from rapping genius Mac Lethal will be permanently bookmarked and customised via bit.ly and passed-on to anyone that reawakens this gramattical raw-nerve that I suffer from:

TfL urges customers to “get on their bikes” during 2012 Games Tube rush via re:route app

How do you get people off the Tube and onto London’s cycle lanes and pedestrian footpaths during the London 2012 Olympic Games?
According to TfL, it’s as simple as pointing people to the re:route iPhone app which rewards individuals every time they choose to walk or cycle around London. Whether your route is quicker, better for the environment or gets you burning more calories, you’ll earn points towards all sorts of treats – from haircuts and hotels, to shopping and spa days.
Recyclebank, the company behind the app is formed of a …

Will your brand be tweeting about the London 2012 Olympic Games this Summer? Think again.

I’ve just been forwarded-on a PDF of the International Olympic Committee’s  Guidelines for Social Media which were posted on the British Columbia Athletes website by Canadian writer Kalie McCrystal.
Whilst the guidelines are published for Canadian readers of the BCA’s website, they were originally drawn up for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympic Games by the IOC to control material that was posted on social media websites by accredited personnel.
The current Guidelines were published by the IOC in August 2011.  They establish the dos and don’ts of social media during the 2012 …

All in a day’s work: Saving Shakespeare, learning Spanish and stopping SPAM. You’re just fab!

Need an excuse to stand that little bit taller today? Here’s one: YOU are actively involved in helping digitise the world’s books (via Google Books) and the entire newspaper archive of the New York Times, making the printed word eventually accessible to billions of people online. I bet you weren’t even aware that you were involved in this noble pursuit of epic proportions?
If like me, you spend a lot of time online, you probably need no introduction to the item below.

It’s a reCAPTCHA code. A CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing …

When @GBchefs + @homemadelondon + Martin Wishart = Armagnac Ganache Truffle Heaven!

Did you know that last week was National Chocolate Week? NO?!!!*
*(neither did I…)
Last Friday I had the pleasure of attending a very special evening courtesy of @GBchefs at which I learnt how to make the most delicious chocolate truffles in the world!
Great British Chefs is a relatively new venture that celebrates and champions the best in home-grown chefs across the UK. These are chefs who cook in their restaurants on a regular basis and whose food is distinctive and cooked with love. As somebody who has a French wife, I have …

Sunday is the Day to Disconnect… who’s with me?

Hello everyone. My name is Rax… and I’m a Twitterholic. I’ve also had dependence issues with Facebook, YouTube, FourSquare and more recently G+. I don’t know where to turn to for answers (Quora, Yahoo Questions, AskJeeves…?).
Thanks to Rabbi Zechariah Wallerstein of Ohr Naava,* my cries/silent-pokes for help may well be answered this Sunday as the world prepares for Day to Disconnect: October 2nd, 2011.
According to the Day to Disconnect website:
On that day thousands of people will voluntarily unplug their gadgets for some time – an hour, two or even all day. …

Art Project powered by Google: A true wonder

After a tough few days, there’s nothing I enjoy more than flicking through the online pages of Google Labs to see what new gadgets, widgets, services and gizmos the clever folk at Google are currently playing around with. It’s almost as cathartic as reading WIRED magazine…
Today in Google Labs, I discovered Art Project powered by Google – a new venture which enables you to explore museums from around the world, discover and view hundreds of artworks at incredible zoom levels, and even create and share your own collection of masterpieces.

Have you heard about Airbnb? A million folks have.

I have to admit that I had never heard of Airbnb until the infographic below was posted on PSFK yesterday. I felt compelled to click on the image and discovered the amazing growth that this community marketplace for unique spaces has experienced since its launch in August 2008.

Airbnb connects people who have space to spare with those who are looking for a place to stay. Guests can build real connections with their hosts, gain access to distinctive spaces, and immerse themselves in the culture of their destinations.
A couple of years …

Internet For Peace: a Nobel Prize for each and every one of us

The Internet has been nominated for the 2010 Nobel Peace Prize in recognition of its positive impact on humanity:

We have finally realised that the Internet is much more than a network of computers.
It is an endless web of people. Men and women from every corner of the globe are connecting to one another, thanks to the biggest social interface ever known to humanity.
Digital culture has laid the foundations for a new kind of society.
And this society is advancing dialogue, debate and consensus through communication.
Because democracy has always flourished where …
