Rent a hot model to wear your brand

The Internet can be a disruptive force particularly within the world of established industries. Artists, musicians, airlines, insurance companies… the list of professions and industries that use the web to cut out the middle man by doing business directly with their public without intermediaries is rapidly growing by the day. It would seem that the modelling world has taken note and is starting to go ‘direct’ too.

A new venture called She Wears Your Tee was recently started by Tanaya Henry, a fashion model who lives in New York.

Tanaya, who has been modeling since she was sixteen, is now accepting reservations for each day of the year where she will wear a company’s logo and promote their brand. SheWearsYourTee.com has a unique and affordable pricing structure where days are sold at “face value”. The first day of January cost $1, with calendar spots increasing one dollar per day until December 31, 2010, which costs $365. Already generating quite the buzz online, the site is a growing success and Tanaya plans to sell out the entire year as well as possibly repeat the efforts in 2011.

If you add up the potential revenue of this site ($1+$2+$3+$4+$5…..$365…) Tanaya has the potential to earn $66,795 in a year providing she gets a booking every day. That’s around £42K. Not a bad gig.

She says:

“Companies such as L’Oreal, Estee Lauder, and Lucky Jeans have hired me for thousands of dollars a day to help promote their brands but I am offering my services to you for a fraction of that cost.”

ShinyShiny blogger Anna Leach sums up the concept like this:

“I suppose if you break the modelling industry down to its bare bones it is basically paying people to wear clothes. And whether that’s a Dolce and Gabbana onesie or a Fruit of the Loom T-shirt with the icon for a Twitter app printed on it – it’s same thing: paying someone to wear something and taking a picture. In traditional situations the models go through a modelling agency who take a hefty cut of the profit. As in the fan-funded music model, the internet lets you get out there and get paid without having to go through middle men.”

Tanaya is by no means a rookie in the modelling industry. She has been modelling for over a decade, representing an array of top brands such as Catherine Malandrino, Microsoft, Hershey’s, VH1, L’Oreal, and Sephora. Tanaya is originally from Minneapolis, Minnesota and has been living in New York for several years. She has been featured on many of the industry’s top entertainment, fashion, and gossip blogs. She’s quite easy on the eye too, but I guess that’s a given.

Incidentally, if you’d like me to wear any branded t-shirts/hoodies/underpants, get in touch.
