Online Censorship: The truth

23 January 2010 2,544 views No Comment

Sex. Arse. Falun gong. Democracy.

Chances are, if you’re reading the words above right now, you don’t live in Yemen, Myanmar, or China.

Internet censorship can take many forms, from restricting private Internet access to blocking searches for politically volatile keywords.I had no idea, for example that both France and Germany use filters to blog out any websites which actively deny the Holocaust. Or that the UAE block access to all sites ending in .ie (Israel’s top-level domain name).

There are currently 63 journalists around the world who are imprisoned due to cyber censorship laws. Exercise your Internet freedom by taking a look at this latest video from GOOD (www.good.is) – a collaboration of individuals, businesses, and nonprofits pushing the world forward.
