#UKSnow Map 2.0 sets the trending snowball off once again on Twitter
Leicestershire’s King of Mashups, Ben Marsh (@benmarsh) has resurrected the UKSnowMap this winter in a bid to help us all track snow flurries up and down our sceptred isle.
In a month where real-time search dominated the social media landscape, it now join forces with the cold wet stuff to create a real-time snow map, based on the occurrence of the #uksnow hashtag on Twitter.
The UK snow map automatically updates every minute and shows a panel of the latest tweets down one side of the screen:
Add to the map:
The Snow Map is only as good as the data inputted, so get involved and Tweet the Sleet:
Tweet the first half of your postcode, and rate the amount of snow that is falling out of ten (0/10 for nothing, 5/10 for steady snow and 10/10 for arctic blizzard conditions) >> “#uksnow [FIRST-HALF-OF-POSTCODE] [SNOW-SCORE]/10″, ie: “#uksnow NG9 3/10″.
Add your twitpic url to the end of your tweet to show it on the map >> “#uksnow [FIRST-HALF-OF-POSTCODE] [SNOW-SCORE]/10 [TWITPIC-URL]“, ie: “#uksnow NG9 3/10 http://twitpic.com/aaaaa”.
Ben is currently accepting new work for February 2010. Please email him at ben@benmarsh.com and he will be happy to discuss your project. However, given the torrential snow that hit the UK in February 2009, Ben may find himself with a schedule to rival that of Jack Frost.
Much obliged to ShinyShiny’s Anna Leach for the early warning!
