The theft is not in the physical. If I write a film script and someone copies this and then makes a film from it, it is theft despite the original not being removed. If a company makes a drink and a competitor finds the secret recipe and reproduces the drink, it is still theft despite the original recipe not being removed. Intellectual property, Copyright etc...all can be stolen without the original being displaced. And so on. It's called piracy when it involves plagiarism. That's because Pirates took boats and passed them off as their own. But really it's just theft. Sorry, no cool illustration. Piracy is still consuming a product without paying for it, which is theft.
