The Sound of Orange RockCorps – pure genius!

19 October 2009 1,353 views No Comment

Recently I was pointed in the direction of a project called the Sound of Orange RockCorps which is an innovative social music experience that allows people to create remixes of well known tracks using their own voice and sounds produced by themselves and their friends.

The new application www.orangerockcorps.co.uk/soundoforangerockcorps enables users to record their own singing through their PC microphone or mobile phone. People can create their own unique music or connect with friends through Facebook to create a joint track.

Created by digital agency Poke, The Sound of Orange RockCorps will include new tracks and a top performance section where the best tracks will be showcased. The site also features a blog, a video all about The Sound of Orange RockCorps and useful tips about how to record the best sounds. Users are able to invite friends to make music with them through Facebook and updates will appear in the Facebook newsfeed. It is also possible to post a link to your own remixes on blogs and websites.

The aim is for the new application to increase awareness of Orange RockCorps, the music-led volunteer programme which provides a way for young people to experience the value of giving something back to their local community. The programme inspires young people to volunteer within their local community to earn a concert ticket in return.

Back in September, 5,000 volunteers at the Orange RockCorps gig at the Royal Albert Hall were given USB wrist-bands including exclusive music tracks, behind- the-scenes footage from the gigs and information about the application to encourage volunteers to make their own remixes.

Here is an example of what was produced:

Facebook Connect

Possibly one of the best examples (certainly the most innovative) of Facebook Connect integration. Up to 27 friends can create a song together by each recording different parts and picking the best ones. Genius!

Auto-tuning

You don’t have to be note perfect – after recording different parts of the song, you can notch the pitch up or down and auto-tune your best effort.

Mobile

It’s integrated with mobile – you can record sounds via your computer mic or by dialling into a special number on your mobile phone. Smart! I can see kids doing this on the bus…

Syndication

The guys at Poke have made it really simple to share songs with the rest of the world in all the usual places – Facebook, MySpace and anywhere you can embed code

Finally, a great example of BRAND + CAUSE + SOCIAL MEDIA…

I urge you all to have a go… NOW!
