10 Things Bruce Willis Should Know About Social Media
Bruce Willis’ ex wife Demi Moore may be the Twitter queen, but the action star has revealed he isn’t a fan of social networking sites.
The Hollywood actor hit the red carpet in LA for the premiere of his new film Surrogates, and when a journalist tried to discuss Facebook with him, Bruce gave the reporter a scathing look and simply said: “Dude…!”
Shame on you, Mr Willis…
Here are TEN things Brucie should know about social media and all round web geekiness…
ONE: Look Who’s (Cyber S)Talking
Willis’s performed as the voice of baby Mikey in this 1989 comedy co-starring John Travolta and Kirstie Alley. The film and its sequel Look Who’s Talking Too focuses on parenting from the perspective of the children in a world where babies talk to each other in fluent wisecracking New York-enese.
The subject of parenting was recently covered by Revolution Magazine in a piece on how mothers are now stalking their kids online to keep tabs on what they’re up to:

THREE: Armageddon
So, the world’s gonna end? You’ll probably learn about it first on Twitter…
The brilliant endofworld.net animation on the end of the world sure beats the 1998 suckfest that was Armageddon (surprisingly the highest grossing film of the year).
FOUR: Die Hard
The Die Hard Fan Club Facebook Application has fifteen active users.
“Yipee Ki Yay, Motherfucker!”
FIVE: The Fifth Element
The “Divine Language” spoken in the film is a fictional language with only 400 words, invented by director Luc Besson and Milla Jovovich. Jovovich stated that she and Besson wrote letters to each other in the Divine Language as practice. Nowadays, 400 words could surely be reduced to 140 characters?
Geeks Fans from around the world have created homages to this fictional language and there’s even a forum dedicated to adding new words to this niche vocabulary.
Bruce’s refusal to engage online makes him slightly chon* wouldn’t you say?
SIX: Twelve (Grease) Monkeys
Greasemonkey is a Firefox extension that allows you to write scripts that alter the web pages you visit.
You can use it to make a web site more readable or more usable. You can fix rendering bugs that the site owner can’t be bothered to fix themselves. You can also alter pages so they work better with assistive technologies that speak a web page out loud or convert it to Braille. You can even automatically retrieve data from other sites to make two sites more interconnected.
Here are 12 Greasemonkey scripts that have changed the way many people view the web:
